I am an experienced teacher librarian, based at Ardtornish Primary School. Our school has been successful preparing our students as readers and have developed a program to continue their growth and interest in books throughout their primary years.
How do you make sure students continually develop as readers after reaching decoding independence and are inspired to be “readers for life”?

Topics covered are
  • Silent Sustained Reading- how does it work successfully?
  • How do I make sure my students have a “just right” book?
  • What records should students and teachers keep?
  • What is a reading interview and how do I find time to do it?
  • How can I make sure I am extending my students?
  • Are genres important?
  • How many books should my students read?
  • How can I use my school library and teacher librarian, to support my reading program?
  • What does a successful classroom library look like?
  • How does reading fit into my whole literacy program?
