The venue for this years "And the Winner is..." was Trinity Gardens Primary School ( Thank you to Kathryn Beilby (TL @ Trinity Gardens). The event, held on the 27th of March ( 6.30-9.00 pm ) is a chance for teachers, teacher librarians and librarians to listen to several speakers predict the short listed books for 2017.
The focus was on the Notable books in their categories. This list came out on 27th February so the presenters had a month to read as many books as possible. The presenters were Sue van der Veer & Sharon Stratton, Events and Marketing, Port Adelaide/Enfield Libraries, Alana Ojeda and Jasmine Pugh, Library Officers, Children Services from Playford Libraries along with, Emma Phillips, Head of Library & Information Services at Wilderness School and Jane Moore, Teacher Librarian, Ardtornish Primary. It was excellent having both school librarians and local library staff as presenters for the evening. Response from the audience was excellent with many positive comments about the range and expertise of the presenters. Having both local library staff and school library staff as presenters also meant that we certainly broadened our audience from last year.

On the 27th March at 12:00, the 2017 shortlisted books were announced. Lucky students and teachers were able to be present at the SA event at St Peter's Public Library. It was an exciting time waiting for the books to be selected from the excellent notables list.
Present were Professor Margot Hillel OAM, SA judges Katherine England, Dyan Blacklock & Linda Guthrie. Students were able to listen to two well known South Australian authors, Mike Dumbleton (reading Eve and Elly)and Roseanne Hawke (Daughter of Nomads) discuss their latest books and how they prepare their notes for their stories and where they get their ideas. "Behind the News" reporters interviewed several students about their responses to Book Week, reading and the short listed books. Book sellers and food were also present. What more can you ask for! |
